Best Ethiopian food we have ever had... and we have eaten Ethiopian food up and down the state of California. We went here for my husband's birthday and the food was amazing. The service was polite and welcoming. Girls twe had vegetarian sambusa. Light crispy and not too salty. You could tase the food and wonderful Berber flavors. We also got two veggie plates and salmon and it was wonderful. The music and decor complimented a great family environment. It made San 5 hour drive but We will be back!
Barcote has been my first choice for Ethiopian in the east bay for a few years now. The service and owner have always been super welcoming and warm, very homey. Whether you're ordering or eating on their back patio, the food is always hot and delicious! I was happy to see them featured on Check Please! Congrats Barcote
Was craving Ethiopian food earlier this week and went ahead and ordered online from this location. Ordered the meat combo, and it hit the spot. The food was divine, so much flavour in each dish, the sauces were bomb, not spicy, delicious! Fast and friendly service. Been to several Ethiopian restaurants in the Bay but this is possibly my new favourite! Just a word of advice if you're ordering take out be sure to hold the bag sideways to prevent spills. Enjoy!!!
We ordered the vegetarian combo and meat combo for 4 people and it was so much food! This could have served 5 people easily. Service was super slow, it took quite a while to order and get water. They have a great outdoor area in the back and allow dogs which is great! This is definitely a more healthier version and less spicy compared to other Ethiopian spots I've been too. Overall it was delicious though!
Nice place; generous, with kind and attentive service. My friend and I got kitfo and doro wot; when I go out for Ethiopian food, the ratio of injera to entrée is usually in the latter's favor. Not so here; injera refills came six at a time out of a tub. Abundance. The doro wot was my favorite, as usual; the chicken is tender, on the bone, and the berbere nicely acidic to help cut through the spice. I think I could take more spice, though. The kitfo is darker in flavor. It's beef, after all, cooked in butter; this is decadent. But I think I prefer ripping the chicken off the bone myself. It's fun. Get both.
